I’m from Philly

So says the Accent Quiz. Amazingly correct. Try it yourself.

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you’re not from Philadelphia, then you’re from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you’ve ever journeyed to some far off place where people don’t know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn’t have a clue what accent it was they heard.

  1. Well, it must be right. It says I have a southern accent. Born Missouri and raised in Arkansas, though have lived in LA, WV, PA, and MA.

  2. It nailed me! I’m from Michigan, and it said I’m from the Inland North. However, I can pass for southern when I try to do so (lived in Virginia for 5 years, but have always picked up accents easily.) But, sorry, TBTAM, I DON’T want to sound like a New Yorker…(or Jersey, where I live…)

  3. As you know, my nickname on blogspot is indeed a mockery of the flufian accent (struggling pronounced schrugglin). I nearly cried with delight when I read the post.

The quiz nailed me as a New Jersey/New York guy. Totally accurate.

  4. “feels it is her duty to get the rest of us addicted as well.”

It’s no fun being bad by myself. Consider it payback. I’ve gained 5 pounds since I started reading your blog.

  5. Nailed it, I’m from the West. They say this part of the country has the least accent, which proves these guys haven’t been to Southern Utah!

  6. I got a bit kick out of this. I linked to you with my own post about it. I am a Fluffian, too … and according to the test, I still sound like one after all these years.

I was born in senner siddy at Broad and Vine at Hahnemann where my dad tawt biochemistry. We used to drive over the wall women bridge every Sunday to visit my granmuther in Souf Jersey. Goin’ downashore this August to Cape May to get my Mid-Atlantic fix. Rilly.

I am jealous of you in NYC, where at least you can still get decent pickles and Italian bread and pretzels and pizza (it’s just as well that we can’t, but still …)

    🙂

    Cheers!

PS Thanks for your comment a while back!

  7. Well, I’m a Canadian who’s been living in the northeast for 18 years (NYC primarily). The test said I had a Boston accent – which is (IMO) way off. I guess I was warned… it’s only a test for US accents. 🙂
