I’m often asked to recommend recipes for Thanksgiving, so here’s a few suggestions for you all.
I’ve never actually cooked a turkey, so this will just be sides and desserts. To be honest, that’s pretty much are all I care to eat at Thanksgiving dinner anyway.
Noticeably missing from this list are recipes for cranberry sauce (I use the one on the cranberry bag – no need to mess with perfection), mashed potatoes (there is no recipe, it’s instinctual if you’re Patsy’s daughter), and stuffing (I’ve never made it, that gets assigned to someone else).
Hope these are helpful. Happy Holidays!
Sides
- Candied Sweet Potatoes – A recipe to be grateful for.
- Brussels Sprouts and Shallot Saute with Raisins and Pine Nuts – If you think you hate brussels sprouts, this recipe will change your mind.
- Sauteed Broccoli with Garlic and Croutons – spice it up with red pepper flakes.
- Brussels Sprouts Gratin – This dish converted my sister and brother in law from brussels sprouts hate to brussels sprouts love.
- Sauteed Brussels Sprouts with Pine Nuts and Balsamic Vinegar – This recipe won’t change the world, but you’ll adore it anyway.
- Herb Roasted Potatoes – A delicious alternative to mashed potatoes.
- Yellow Squash and Almond Saute – You can up the olive oil and add more grated cheese if you like – this recipe has as many variations as there are cooks!
- Potatoes Anna – Another alternative to mashed.
- Roasted Cauliflower – This recipe made me fall in love with cauliflower.
- Sauteed Kale with Garlic – Simple, straightforward, delicious
- Roast Broccoli – My fave way to enjoy broccoli.
Veggie and Gluten-Free Options
- Sauteed Tofu and Roasted Winter Squash – For your non-Turkey eaters (and others!)
- Cheese Stuffed Eggplant – a great vegetarian option
- Summer Corn Pudding – a great way to use that summer corn in your freezer. If you substitute corn flour for flour, it can be a delicious and satisfying alternative to stuffing for your gluten-sensitive guests
Desserts
- Maple Cheesecake with Roasted Pears – As gorgeous as it is delicious.
- Cranberry-Apple Pie (Pic up top of this post) – Good enough to be a Thanksgiving tradition.
- European Apple Torte – Always a crowd-pleaser.
- Ginger Stout Cake – An autumn favorite. Serve it with whipped cream.
- Dorie Greenspan’s Apple Cake ala’ Marie-Helene – OMG. Just look at it.
