I Love my Blog

It’s true. I love my blog.

No, you don’t get it. Yeah, I love blogging, and love reading and sharing blogs, having a blog, blah, blah. But what I mean is – I love my blog. Really love it.

Oh, all right, I’ll just say it. I am in love with my own blog.

As in the I can’t wait to see you, you’re the last thing I want to see before I go to bed and the first thing I want to see when I wake up kind of love. The I can’t get enough of you love. The what did I ever do before I met you kind of love.

And the worst thing is, I can’t stop looking at my blog. Any excuse I can make –“I wonder if there are any comments?” “Did I spell that right?” “Oops – didn’t realize it was still loaded in my browser.”

Yeah, right. Just another excuse to look at your own blog. Read that last brilliant post just one more time. Stare in astonishment at this thing you have created. This wonderful, marvelous, one-of-a kind expression of everything you are. But not the way a parent might stare at their child sleeping like an angel in the crib. No. That would be normal.

More like Narcissus staring into the pool at his own reflection all goddamned day long. IN LOVE WITH HIMSELF. Pitiful, isn’t it?

And don’t get me started talking about my relationship with statcounter. How many hits today? Any hits since I last looked 3 minutes ago? It’s like asking everyone you know to stand around the pool and stare with you, then looking up every 2 seconds to see how many are still standing there.

Well, it has to end. And soon. I’m starting to ignore my kids and husband. Letting work pile up on my desk. At this point, I’ll be here till 8 pm tonight getting caught up. My kids won’t get a proper dinner and I’ll be an even worse mother than I already am.

It’s sick, I tell you. Sick.

Look, I gotta’ go. But don’t tell this to anyone, ok? And don’t worry. I’ll be all right. I just had to get it off my chest.

  1. I used to love mine too, just like you describe. It *was* sick and I suspected that my loved ones worried about it without fully letting on.

I am doing better now. Right now the blog and I are more friends than lovers. I enjoy the blog and it’s a good thing to have around, but the mad passion lasted only for a couple of months. Sometimes a few days pass between posts and I don’t feel that painful longing I might have during the more intense phase.

I do still check the statcounter way more than I should, though.

  2. U know,u awakened my feelings towards my blog.I always wondered why do i log in thousands of times a day to check my posts, people’s comments, whether my posts r written correctly, no mistakes, ofcourse u know all these sorts of things (although i just created my blog recently and it doesn’t have this much of topics)
Anywayzz, u have the full right to fall in love wit ur blog coz i really like it so much. I’m never bored reading it.

  3. ha!!! I was just starting to think it is like I am “having an affair with my blog”…glad I’m not alone! it is strangely comforting. :O)

  4. Amen. I love your blog, too. I mean, medicine and cooking – what’s NOT to love? And the artwork is, well, just gorgeous.

Face it. Your kids? They’re derived by half from someone else’s genetic makeup; your blog is a much purer representation of yourself. And you have more control over it as well. Enjoy!

  5. This is a hilarious entry. I think those statcounter things are dangerously addictive though…

I do love the look of your blog… will be checking in more often.

  6. Hey,
    haha, this is funny.
I just started blogging yesterday and have been glued to my computer ever since. I’ve logged into my own blog over 40 times (the only one who has, along with my brother, lol)I thought i was just procrastinating over having to write a paper and a thesis but apparently not. I also thought the feeling would fade with time, but apparently not. Lol, only conclusion: I am hopelessly, completely, amorously devoted to my own blog…and yours.

  7. I love your blog too. It’s always fun to read. One thing I thought others who read this brilliant might be interested in:

Scientists say polio virus may re-emerge in coming years, possibly infecting millions

The 19-year-old campaign to eradicate polio is celebrating recent progress and an unexpected infusion of cash, but experts are coming to realize they will not be able to end the laborious efforts to control the virus any time soon, The Washington Post is reporting. Ridding the world of polio will be a far messier business than the 1977 eradication of smallpox, which remains a unique achievement in medicine. That is because it is now clear the virus that causes polio could re-emerge in the coming years, and possibly even decades, after the last case is found. The reason involves peculiarities of poliovirus and the oral Sabin vaccine being used to eradicate the disease.By Gene Koprowski, Editor-in-Chief

  8. You have a wonderful blog!

I know exactly how you felt!

I still feel that way and I am officially reading blogs 2 years this month and 1st post …i think 11/13/06/ I am as hooked as ever…scary hooked.

    Does it ever get better?

    Some people , smoke.

    Some people do drugs.

Some people relax with a nice drink.

If I have been away from blog because too busy… when I finally come back, sit down with a hot cup of coffee or tea, start touching the key board and see my blog and begin perusing the blogasphere… honest to God… I get this totally peaceful…Ahhhhhhhhh, every thing is right with the world. it’s like all the stress washes away and I am one with the universe or something like that. I have no doubt… it must be that feeling someone gets when they take that 1st sip of that badly needed drink. Hmmm… is this addiction?

I look at it this way… at least it is creative and educational, as well as hilarious at times.

Honestly… I think my family worries about it. But I hardly watch TV. Sadly though… I don’t read as many books.

    I love this post.

I am sure you have a lot of kindred spirits in the blogasphere.

Btw… speaking of educational… you were the one who enlightened me to what exactly menopause was and that it is a marker day.

That was me who asked you the FSH question last night.

My gyno doc called me today to say I was at 19 for FSH.

He said the lab values are over 25 is menopause.

I said so it is possible to get pregnant and he said yes. I’m 53.

So technically…to be 100% safe from getting pregnant…we still have to use birth control for a year from whenever the last time I have a period or spot and he said yes.

He said it isn’t likely but I could. Then he said although my system probably wouldn’t support a pregnancy.

i was bummed about the birth control.

He said the text books say the FSH has to be 40 or maybe he said over 40 before you are considered in menopause.

I didn’t think to ask him this… but why such a disparity in numbers between text book and the lab?

The nurse said while it isn’t likely I would get pregnant… I could still have a surge of hormones at just the right time.

And I have friends that haven’t had a period since late 40s!

  9. Seaspray – Thanks, and re the blog love, DITTO.

Re the Birth control – I used it till a year after my last period. Your odds are pretty darned low at 53, but I say why take the chance?

  10. Think of it as a painting. If you'd just done a beautiful canvasful, wouldn't you be justified in feasting your eyes on it? Ah the dopamine flood of creation. Now about those site meters… That's just plain addiction.

  11. I just started blogging, and I know how you feel! It's an addiction. You grabs you by the horns, and doesn't let go.

I've been musing around your blog, and I look forward to reading more!

Very fun! And a great natural humor to your writing!

  12. Roberta – Thanks! Enjoy the addiction – I can tell you that over time it will wax and wane, but always comes back full force when it returns.
