Flash Brindisi – Members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia break into song at the Reading Terminal Market in Philly.

Food and music together? It doesn’t get any better than that!

  1. Beautiful …

Have you ever considered doing a post on location from another city you're visiting … say, Atlanta????

Would love to see you down here for a meal.

  2. katherine –

Indeed – Pbilly is such a great town!

kathy a – I too was crying at the end.

KCD – Wow – so honored to have you comment. I hope more opera companies do this – Opera really can be the music of the people – if we just bring tt to them!

    Anjie –

Wow – I had no idea till your comment. Thanks for pointing it out to me!

    Tyrie –
Actually, did a whole series on my visit to Georgia – including Athens, a town I adore.

Unfortunately, never get to see Atlanta except from the airport. One of these days, I'm checking out that town….

    Levonne – thanks! I know – food + NYC – heaven, right?

  3. what a fabulous public service! I'll be waiting for the same to come to a market near me… Are you listening Canadian Opera Company?

  4. Beautiful. I think opera houses should do more of it. There are so many people today who don't know what opera is, how much talent there is in opera, who think that badly sung arias on tv talent shows is opera, or who confuse "popera" with opera.

A lot more people would go to opera if they just heard it.

FYI – for those who live where PBS stations broadcast GP at the Met. "Simon Boccanegra" on PBS at 9pm on Thursday and at 12:30pm on Sunday (on wnet/thirteen in NY area; on channel 21 at 3:30pm on Sunday).

  5. Kitty – thanks for the heads up!

Bix – I adore the Reading Terminal, and especially that despite all the changes around it, it has stayed pretty much the same.

medstudentitis- I love that every big city has a local opera company – singing with the homies….

    Catniptyhme – thanks!
